Meet Sarah

Sarah Jernigan is the owner and principal designer of Sarah Jernigan Designs, Inc., specializing in remodeling and interior decorating. Although she has a love for the aesthetics of decorating, Sarah thrives when working with a contractor or architect in “reassigning” spaces through construction. Since her company’s inception in 2007, she and her staff have designed and implemented remodeling projects ranging from small children’s baths, to whole-house remodels. Whether its transforming a boring basement garage to a sassy multi-purpose room, or working with a family to reinvent their living area, Sarah loves any project that ensures a distinctive “before” and “after.”

A Mississippi native, Sarah is a graduate of The University of Mississippi, with a BA in Print Journalism. After graduation and working in the design industry for 3 years, she pursued a design education at the Auburn University School of Architecture. While concentrating on Interior Design, she was awarded “Top Interior Design Student” during her first year in the design school. Sarah has not only a passion for interiors, but also a love for floral design, fine art, pottery, and specialty ceramics. Her favorite tools are bold colors and anything that spells out personal style. She and her Maltese, “Brother” love visiting family in Mississippi, but comfortably call Birmingham home after living here for over 25 years.

Sarah’s remodeling and interior decorating projects have been featured in local publications, Birmingham Home and Garden magazine as well as Birmingham magazine. She has also had projects in several national publications, Renovation Style, Southern Living, and Do It Yourself. Prior to forming the company, Sarah spent 9 years honing her design expertise working for Southern Living Magazine. During that tenure, she gained extensive design experience by working in a variety of roles. Her most recent position was as Interior Design Coordinator for the Southern Living Idea House Program, overseeing the design of custom showhouses constructed throughout the Southeastern United States for publication in Southern Living. Sarah’s editorial experience included positions as Associate Homes Editor and Editor, Southern Living Weddings, where she created, produced and wrote stories about homes and entertaining. In addition, she has produced several “how-to” decorating segments for the Turner South television program, “Southern Living Presents.” Now her clients enjoy her turn of hand with flower arrangements and specialty styling when they entertain.
